Sometimes

Sometimes the ultimate mental test is not the final mile of a triathlon, but the first step out the door to the gym.

So much to learn!

Good evening !
I save all my posts as they help to keep me motivated ! I enjoy unplugging for a few minutes each day and keeping track of the events and feelings through out my busy chaotic days!
I'm usually up every day between 4 and 5 am without any alarms ! I still set them just incase but it rarely wakes me up!!!! Some days when I'm not at the gym first thing I just lay around for a bit before I get up and go ! Monday's I swim at donevan complex in Oshawa .. I used to swim at my gym but the water has way to much chlorine in it ! Tuesday's I run for half hour 1 min run 1 min walk which has been changed to 2 min run 1 min walk! I can now tell bye the little increase that monthly it will be going up now and the hours will also go up from here ! Yay!!! I also have yoga after my run that keeps me stretched.
Wednesday I either go to legends for the mini monster spin or I spin at home!!! What ever my schedule lets me!!!!!!!!!
Thursday I'm at the gym at 5 am pumping the weights for about an hour and a half !! Then in the evening it's off to Paul's advanced swim class for 45 minutes of extreme fun!!! I've seen my heart rate at the upper end of the scale for those swim classes!
Friday is my favorite day !!! Rest day! I usually go to sleep VERY early Friday night!!! Because I like to get up early Saturday morning for my monster 2 hour spin class !I love waffles and a fruit smoothie before I do that class !!!! Now that's a workout!
Most Saturday afternoons find me sneaking off for some kind of nap wich could lead into a full on sleep if I get so lucky!!!
Sunday is also a busy day I have a hockey game ! Which will be my last season because the risk of injury is extreme in hockey I don't want to risk getting hurt if I decide to go in the big show next year !!!
After hockey I usually have a half hour run followed by about an hour and a half weight session ! And you guessed it !!! Home to eat! Then right to bed !!!
Get up Monday and do it all over again!
I'm getting alot of data from my training journal !!! My amount of sleep each day and my resting heart rate! I also write down everything I eat, bad and good! I write down how I feel that day and try to see if what I ate the day before has an effect !
With that info I can make sure I eat what's right on the day before my race!
I also keep tabs on what money I spend and on what so I can adjust that also if it gets out of control !
All this info is going to help me and hopefully I will have time to process it all for a successful race season!!

Have a great night!

Testing the water

Good evening
So I changed pools tonight just to test the water ! And yes there was a huge difference in the pool water quality... I would say about 25% less chlorine in the city pool compared to the private gym pool I think I will make the change to swim there instead! Maybe if my gym cleans up a bit I will go back but not till then ! I went as far today as making a call to the health board because of the ministry order up on the wall and he said he tested the pool and the levels were in the limits so it was ok to swim in but he had to shut down the hot tub! I will still work out there and run and do yoga there but no more swim till they clean it up !
Just before my 13 day break I was writing everything down in my training journal ... I will put that to its test by finally making a master nutrition plan to follow for the summer ' once I get some free time ! Lol (ya right)
I'm to tired to finish writing tonight so I'll post two on Wednesday night !
Have a good night !

Every day is a challenge

Good evening !
Today was exceptionally hard for me and I'm not sure why !
Could have been the time off I was just a little gassed but none the less I finished the day! My head just wasn't in the game ! I played hockey, ran, and did my weights! But didn't feel like doing any of it! I will tell tomorrow if I'm sore from lifting my weights if I did anything or just waisted my time !!
One of my friends had a hard day today too and I just want her to know she is doing a great job! And should be real proud of herself! For the achievements she has made ! Very impressive !!
I was talking to a friend at my gym I go to and she was saying that they were going to close last week but the original owners took them back ! She was also telling me about the pool being shut down last week by the ministry o health for unsafe conditions which isn't good ! I will be asking some questions tomorrow for sure !
I hope the week goes well !!
Have a good night !

Saturday 25 February 2012

Great to be back

So the spin went good today ! Hamstrings were a little tight from my week and a half of down time !
I don't think I lost a lot of fitness while I was down I had lots of power and made it threw the whole thing just needed a little more recovery time after a big set! Always good to see my tri friends !! There was a few missing today hope they are all ok ! Christine filled Paul's shoes real well! Lots of people were sweating .... I know it's a good class when I'm wishing the class ended after the first hour goes by ....
Planning for me in this sport is a must !
Today and yesterday I put some hours in planning but didn't want to get into march till coach Paul sends my march schedule ! It will be very similar to this months plan I think maybe just a little more in the hour department !
Off to bed big day tomorrow !!

Saturday morning spin

Good early morning !
I'm very happy the snow stayed away !
Loading the bike up and off to spin class my first one in three weeks! Should be interesting!!
Have a great day !

This is a must read

My friend Kieran posted this article on his Facebook page but I thought it was good enough for everyone I know to read !!

Ironman champ: Train your brain, then your body

(CNN) -
Training for a race is like riding a roller coaster -- you experience highs and lows, ups and downs, and more peaks and troughs than the New York Stock Exchange.

Two weeks before I raced at the World Ironman Championships in Kona, Hawaii, last year, I had a bad bike crash. I won the race, not on physical prowess, but on grit, willpower, determination and mental strength.

I hope I showed, through my performance there, that sporting success rests, in part, with having the mental fortitude necessary to overcome our fears, pain and discomfort.

But how does one develop that strength? Is it innate, or can it be learned?

I believe it is the latter. We can all train our brains to be as strong as our bodies.

It sounds simple, but it's so easy to forget. If we let our head drop, our heart drops with it. Keep your head up, and your body is capable of amazing feats. To plunder the words of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, "Don't ever forget that you play with your soul as well as your body."

Follow the Fit Nation team on Twitter or on Facebook

The message is this: All the physical strength in the world won't help you if your mind is not prepared. This is part of training for a race -- the part that people don't put in their logbooks, the part that all the monitors, gizmos and gadgets in the world can't influence.

But how do you train your brain to help you achieve your goals? I don't profess to have all, or many, of the answers. But in the five years that I have been a professional triathlete, I have learned a few techniques that help me keep mind over matter and ensure that I can ride the roller coaster of sporting success:

Have a mantra and/or a special song to repeat
I write my mantra on my water bottle and on my race wristband. Seeing it gives me a boost and reminds me never to let my head or heart drop.

If you use a permanent marker, be prepared for the wording to stay there long after the race has ended (and that you might receive strange looks from colleagues when you return to work with "I am as strong as an ox" tattooed on your arm).

I also carry a dog-eared copy of Rudyard Kipling's famous poem "If" everywhere I go. I believe the lines of this poem encapsulate the qualities necessary to become a successful athlete and a well-rounded person. Reading it before a race gives me the confidence to pursue my dreams.

Keep a bank of positive mental images

These images can be of family and friends, of previous races, of beautiful scenery, or a big greasy burger.

Draw on these images throughout the race, and especially if you feel the "I am tired. I want to stop. Why did I enter this race? I must be mad" doubts creeping into your mind.

Deliver these negative thoughts a knockout punch before they have the chance to grow and become the mental monster that derails your entire race.

Practice visualization beforehand

In training, when traveling, while sleeping or at work, this is the simple act of closing your eyes (although I don't recommend doing this at a work meeting or while on your bike). Relax your mind and go through each stage of the race one step at a time -- mentally imagining yourself performing at your peak but also successfully overcoming potential problems.

Before Michael Phelps has even entered the water, he has already completed the race in his mind. And won.You can draw on the visual images (the finish line), the feelings you experience (energy surges) or the sounds you hear (roars of the crowd). That way when you race, you have the peace of mind and confidence that you have already conquered the challenges.

Break the race up into smaller, more manageable segments

I always think of the marathon as four 10 kilometer races with a little bit more at the end.

You might think only about getting to the next aid station, or lamppost or Porta Potty and, from there, set another landmark goal.

Stay in the moment and don't think too far ahead. I also try to breathe deeply and rhythmically; if you calm your breath, you can help calm your mind.

Remember that training is about learning to hurt

Push your physical limits and overcome them in training sessions, so that when you race you know that you have successfully endured pain and discomfort.

You will draw confidence and peace of mind from this knowledge.

Get people to support you

Some people thrive on the support from their family and friends, while others perceive it as added pressure.

CONTINUED...
Work out what feels right for you, and if necessary, invite friends, family or pets to come and cheer you on. Have them make banners, wear team T-shirts and generally behave in a way that would get them arrested under normal circumstances.

Mentally recall inspirational people

I recall people who have all fought against adversity to complete the Ironman. These people prove that anything truly is possible.

You might want to consider dedicating each mile to a special person in your life. That makes the discomfort easier to bear and will help give you a mental and physical boost.

Consider racing for a cause that is bigger than yourself

For me, it is to establish a platform on which to spread important messages and be a patron for charitable causes. These force me to put the race in perspective and rise to greater heights.

Champions come and go, but to me the real judge of my personal success will be whether I actually do something positive with the opportunities I have been given.

I really hope that, as four-time world champion, I can be a role model and ambassador for the sport that everyone can be proud of.

I hope that these tips provide some of that sporting gold dust, and enable you to have the race you have always dreamed of.

We will all continue to endure the downs and the dark times, but remember that it is overcoming these that makes the success all the more sweeter. In the words of the great Muhammad Ali: "Success is not achieved by winning all the time. Real success comes when we rise after we fall. Some mountains are higher than others. Some roads steeper than the next. There are hardships and setbacks but you cannot let them stop you. Even on the steepest road you must not turn back".

You might not always have the perfect day, but with the right mental training hopefully the roller-coaster ride will be one to remember. Just remember to celebrate with that huge plate of greasy burger! Good luck!

Bike shopping

So I've been out bike shopping the last few days and so far I like the scott plasma !! I hope erin likes the scott plasma to lol !
I decided to take one more day off training due to this storm coming tonight and get some rest instead of burning myself out and then being up for two days doing snow!
I will jump back into my training on Saturday morning with a monster bike class and away we go!!
I need to get out there and find that motivation I had before my little break ! I'm really looking forward to riding outside again riding on the trainer is getting old fast ! I also really like running outdoors !
I have to cut this one short because I want some sleep before this storm hits!
Dont forget to thank a snowplow driver!

Good news

Good evening !
This is Abbeys blog because she text me just before she went to sleep and reminded me not to forget to write my blog tonight so I wouldn't keep her in suspense ! So this one for you scooby-doo
So I went to see Dr Jason today and for the amount of people that I train with he might as well be the team doctor !
He did his routine first appointment assessment and asked all his questions he did a very good job today! I was very pleased !
I told him about my back pain And my ankle pain and addressed both things my back pain was a rib that popped out and my ankle pain was a number of things ! The easiest to explain was I have zero range of motion and he told me we will try to get some back and get my body balanced right !
I'm very excited about this and now I have everything in place for an exciting year ! I have the support , the coach ,the doctor , the nutrition help , the family , the equipment , the team , the friends , all I need Is the motivation that's the hardest part ! I need to have my plan and like I've been saying all along that's this weekends job, I have a couple more days to go then it's back at it !! Next break is after ironman!

Have a great night !

The early bird gets the worm

This is a common fact but the early bird also gets tired early ! That's what happened to me today ! I was up at 330 am and couldn't get back to sleep ! and now I'm dragging my ass again! Tonight I have a light run on the treadmill then yoga which is very relaxing !
Sunday morning I took a puck in the finger and it swelled up real bad I'm pretty sure that I'm going to loose the nail ! The swelling has gone down a bit today and I hope it goes down before weight day on Thursday.
I went over to the swim store Friday I wanted to get one of those swim p3 things so I could listen to music while I swim ! The were out of stock but will get notified once the receive new stock I can't wait to swim with tunes it will make the boring pool swim much more fun !
I've also been thinking about a new tri bike for this season ! The only debate I'm having with this choice is how much faster will I be ? If at all and how much more comfortable will I be! I have never been the type of person to get something because everyone else does but those bikes do look real cool ! I will continue to weight my decisions but I really like my road bike and I'm already averaging around 30 km/hr so how much faster will the bike make me?
My next purchase I'm thinking about is the Garmin 910 xt gps watch !! It is a very pretty piece of equipment I would love to own ! It tracks everything you need to track including swimming in a lake and pool !! And a new pair of runners im going with the brooks beast
Also I might as well get it all out there !! I need a new tri suit for the summer and since I'm much larger than most triathletes I need to start looking now !

Have a nice day!

Monday 20 February 2012

I missed one day !

After all this training I've figured out a few things !
One is as much as I want to believe im still a newbie! And yes I will make some mistakes !
Number two is sometimes life gets in the way and life will go on!
Number three sometimes you just need a break !
I can go on for ever !!! This sport takes so much of your life you need to make careful decisions with everything you do !! Today was family day and yes I did go swim even though I had a rest day scheduled but last week I didn't do anything and I think I needed a day to just go float around the pool and get focused again ! Thanks to a good friend that always puts things into perspective for me I think I'm finally able to get back on track ! I was on a major derailment and today's swim made training fun again something I forgot about a couple weeks ago ! I made my training a complete obsession ! I trained tired , sick , and put it ahead of everything ! So now I still will take it seriously but keep in mind I'm not a pro and my family is still very important and if I miss one or two training sessions a month it's ok!
I have lots of friends who keep telling me this but I guess I had to learn it for myself! It's just the way I am lol
I'm very thankful for all my friends and there great advise they give me in this sport !!! Its a tough sport I guess that's why they call it IRONMAN
For all those who have already completed an ironman my hat is off to you ! It's an amazing thing to accomplish and I'm proud to train along side of you!
And for all of you that plan to do an ironman I'm also proud to train along side of you ! And can't wait for the day I get to cross the finish line and hear them say I'm an ironman, but I now know it can't be forced and I'm going to take my time and train patiently and proudly and wait for my chance to cross the finish line !
Thanks again for all my friends and family for your support !
And sorry to my girls for missing one day of blogging !!!! Lol !!!
My biggest fans !!!

Sometimes you just need a break

Good evening!!
Life sure gives lots of challenges nothing surprises me anymore!! It has ups and downs and sideways !!! I thought the training was going to be the hard part ! But nope it's not ! I think the mental part is much harder also organization and planning is much more harder than training any day!
Triathlon is a way of life you have to sacrifice plenty but the goals that are achieved are amazing! I have been off training now for one complete week nursing my sore back into shape!!
I really miss my training and miss my tri buddies!
I received an email from a friend today a fellow triathlete that moved away he is also blessed with a large frame like myself and always offers his experience and friendly advice which is greatly appreciated ! Without all these people helping me out in every way I don't think I could do it! I guess that's why some people just run marathons
(just kidding)
I saw a triathlete in a photo wearing a shirt that said that !!! "oh you do marathons ? That's cute"
I shouldn't bug the runners they can run way farther than me lol! It takes a lot to endurance train ! Lots more than people think ! You need a strong family! Because that's all that will be important most of the year, you need understanding friends ,,, there is a good chance you won't see many of them unless they buy a bike and by now you most likely don't have a friend that can keep up to you on a bike without a motor on it!!! Most of your friends won't Putin a wetsuit and jump in the water and swim 3 km !! I'm usually just getting in from a workout when most of my buddies are either just getting up or just getting home from the bar!
I was very lucky to find a bunch of new friends ! A great bunch of people I spend thousands of hours with training! and it's great !
I think everyone needs a coach too it much easier when you don't have to plan your workouts ! You just open your email and there you go ! Your coach can also offer valuable info for you in different situations. It's also good too have someone to help with nutrition because it just as important as training!!! Without good nutrition your not going to finish ! And if you do it won't be pretty!
I have found out why not everyone does triathlons!!!! BECAUSE THEY ARE HARD !!!!

I hope my friends who are going through a hard weekend are ok!!! My thoughts are with you!!

Thursday 16 February 2012

Listen to your coach #2

I like this title, I can have this title many more times ! 1 threw 100,000,000 !!! Coach Paul always seems to know something's up and always seems to say the right things at the right times!! I was worried that with this last week of my routine collapsing I would loose all the hard work I put into my training and also I was worried about slipping back into my old habits! He reassured me I would be ok and we would find a way to keep training my body and maintain my level of fitness! Even though my back was sore !!! I was going to swim at the pool tonight but decided to take one more day and tomorrow is my scheduled day off I will go to the pool and float around and do some Casual laps then hot tub and maybe a light walk on the treadmill ! My back was a little better today so things are looking good for a prompt return to training ! I'm thinking about my friends that are going threw some rough times to ! I'm always here for support like they supported me!!
Maybe this was a welcomed rest for my body and it will benefit from it!

Have a great night !

Trying to stay focused

I have heard about triathletes getting injured but never thought I would get hurt !! And I don't even know how I did it!!! But I seemed to pull a muscle in my back !! It really hurts even to take a breath .....I will let it rest but it's Sure hard to not train for me! I want to get out so bad but know it would be a bad idea ! I'm simply going to watch my calorie intake and rest my back because I will need to make up when I get back at it!!!
I wouldn't have made it threw this small slump if it wasn't for a couple special people!! Thx your help is greatly appreciated !!
I think I'm going to get my mountain bike out this weekend and train outside!!!! Just for a change ! I really need to get out ......
Hope the pain in my back goes away soon !! Really missing my training !
Have a great day !!!!

Hoping to get back to training tomorrow I missed Thursday swim Saturday bike Sunday weights and run and yoga and hockey !! Wow that was a bad one !!
So today off to my grandfathers funeral then back to training !! With all this bad weather over the weekend and my job change it's been real hard to keep up!
Sometimes life gets in the way !!!!
Usually when I miss so much training I get upset but this time I've handled it ok! And I only missed one post !

Better go,

have a great day

Teams

Good morning!!!
After a long crappy weekend of no sleep and no training I wake up to a snow covered road again!
Only my snow team was traded to someone else! I built a very strong team that can not only run itself it can work with other team leaders!
Everything that we deal with everyday requires some type of teamwork ! Even a triathlete that runs a race and trains alone is a part of a team! Your muscles and bones and brain need to work together as a team, your family needs to work as a team, your coaching staff needs to work as a team ! If your left knee chooses not to work as a team you fall! If my family chooses not to work as a team I will fail! If my coworkers choose not to work as a team our company will fail!
So everything we do requires some type of teamwork !!!!!
Bla bla bla bla DRINKLE!!! I can hear some people say! But I guess you are not part of my team !
That was my first group of comments to the new snow team I was given on the weekend! They are all an amazing group of drivers that just lack leadership ! I love this part of my job !!! Sure I'm sad to let my old team go but look forward to the challenges of this new team !
I've been thinking alot the last 2 days about this and realized I'm a pretty good team caption and as long as I do my job of leading the team I can help even the weakest of team players!! And my new team is full of them lol and I don't mean weakest players in a bad sense just they lacked the skills of being led by a good leader, they kind of lost there way.
In this group of 28 people they have divided into smaller groups of teams fighting against each other, which will be very easy to overcome, because I know they are all team players already because they are already in teams I just have to trade and make them all one team!
That's why I think teams are a valuable tool!!!!
So off to my hockey game to play with my TEAM !
Have a great day!

Snow plow

Things are going to get a little sideways

Well here comes the snow ! My diet has gone out the window ! And my job has changed ! I can't sleep ! I missed my swim last night! Wow that's a lot of whining!
So by the looks of things I'm going to have to really regroup after this one ! I think I will start with my job issues and get that strait! Because no job no triathlon ! (since I'm not pro yet lol) if I miss a couple workouts it might be the rest I need to get back on track! I will take one day off work next week maybe even 2 so I can regroup after this weekend full of chaos and start fresh from then !!! I trust my training and trust my level of fitness to say I will recover !!
My new job isn't anything different than I've been doing for my last 12 years but it's a different snow camp in a different town (toronto) and I don't know anything about it or any of the men so it will be interesting !!!! When I had the camp in my home town I knew all the men on a personal level I knew all the town guys too, I knew the city and most important I had my family close by to lean on (team Drinkle) when I got messed up from not sleeping for a few days. My family including my kids went into operation "keep daddy operational"
After staying awake for a couple days simple things become difficult!
Since I've been up since 430am worrying about this storm I should try to lay back down but if I can't I will get up and put on my big boy cloths and get on with my day! "lol" I'll have a good big breakfast a shower and get ready to drop the gloves with mother nature! I can already guess I will miss tomorrows spin class and maybe even Sundays workouts but I'm not going to train exhausted!
This weekend is the reason why my boss has me in this position ! With my ability to deal with multiple sessions of chaos all at the same time so I better not let him down !

"sometimes life itself can simulate an Ironman! There is no such thing as CAN'T !!! Put you head down and finish your race!"

If you get somewhere safely in bad weather !!! Thank a snowplow operator

Have a great day

Thursday 9 February 2012

Ouch

Ear infection !
Good night
And oh yes what a terrible eating day !
Im going to not swim tonight due to this ear problem !
I guess sometimes you need a break !

Wednesday 8 February 2012

Oh great!

Good evening!
Just wonderful !!!
Getting moved to a different snow camp !! A bigger one with troubles! I get to iron out someone else's nightmares ! That could be a compliment or a punishment! I think it's just because of my excellent people skills!!! Pat pat pat on my back!!! After all you have to give yourself a pat every so often !
The only trouble this will be is a new pocket of stress and a different routine ! Just a new hurdle I guess someone thought I needed !!! I was just getting settled down into a bit of a routine and now that's out the door again !
On another note !
My weight loss is at a standstill at 261 like a boat stuck on a sand bar!! My plan is to maintain this wright till I figure out my new schedule and get this other camp running right !
I'm still going to make all my training but it might be at crazy times! Story of my life !
Well wish me luck !!!
Off to some unknown waters!
Have a great night !

Give your all

Good afternoon!
One very important fact i have learned in the last few months is ....put everything you have into your workouts and everything you have into your life!
If you go to the gym for one hour and you just breeze threw the motions it's a waist of your time! Sure you are out exercising but if your there you should give all you have and not waist your time! I'm guilty of that to but quickly catch myself and change it up! I also mark all my moods down in my training journal even if it's only one word! At least I have something to look back on and change things up of that one word is a bad one !
I find that I have to treat my everyday life the same and things work out much better !
Give your personal life your all too and it will be just as rewarding as your training life !
Have a great day

Need some motivation

Good evening !
So the battle continues the desperate attempt to drop extra pounds clashing with the stresses of every day life and the training taking its toll...the crappy weather outside and training inside is difficult to get out of bed in the morning ! I have searched the Internet and it seems like there is lots of people who have the same problem and everyone deals with it their own way !! I have come up with a idea we will see if it works ! Since I love motivational quotes and I read them every day I have wrote some out and put them up in key spots around my house !
One above my bed is my favorite !!
It says "work outs are like brushing my teeth .. I don't think about them I just do them... The decision has already been made " now GET UP AND TRAIN
I have one over my front door that says "those who say it can't be done better get out of the way for those that are doing it" NOW GET OUT THE DOOR AND TRAIN
And I have one over the fridge that says "you can keep going and your legs can hurt for a week or you can quit and your mind will hurt forever!"
NOW GET OUT OF THAT FRIDGE AND TRAIN
I feel good already !!!!
I have lots of people saying "wow I think that your working out to hard ! Or After all your not going to Hawaii why are you training so hard !
I sometimes wonder this very question but I have an answer ! I gave up so much just to get to this point and I look at some of the people that are 80 plus and still going in this sport!
That gives me 40 more years ! Can you imagine how fast I'd be now if I started training 40 years ago ?
I started training last year on this day with the thoughts of just finishing my first sprint in wasaga beach ! All I was happy with was finishing !! Now my this years thoughts are to finish strong!!!'

That's why I'm training so hard !
Coach Paul said that this training I'm doing right now counts and will make me stronger and faster ! So that's what I'm going to do!!!!

Have a great night

Sunday 5 February 2012

Back to normal

Good evening!!!
So the pain in my back is gone ! A bit of a false alarm ! I guess that last weekend just before my hockey game I thought I'd take a Tylenol 3 with codeine for the pain I was having in my foot ! Bad idea !!!! Tylenol 3 with codeine and I don't get along well it really backs me up !! And I guess it was so bad this week it must have been pushing on my spine and causing me huge pain!! I know i know eeewwwww Go figure ! A pain killer causing more pain lol ! Lesson learned!!! don't take those pills!!!
I had a great day today I packed all my food for the next three days time to get turn it up !
I bought a new saddle for my bike on the weekend ! I tried it out on Saturday at the monster bike class and it was real comfortable !!! No numbness at all I also took home a real expensive test saddle but when I tried it out it wasn't very comfortable !! So I will go with the 69$ seat instead of the 299$ seat !! Which is a first for me .. Usually I'd take the expensive one lol
Hope you have a great week !!

"Triathlon, from the outside looking in you can't understand it, and from the inside looking out you can't explain it"!!!!

What next?

Good morning
So I finally get my foot feeling good ! And start to run and now I have this terrible back pain ! I think I will have to let this one rest ! I usually work threw all my pains but this one isn't good !
I did my bike yesterday with difficulty but I finished it ! Today I have weights and a 1 hour cardio session divided up between a run for half hour and half hour elliptical followed closely by an hour and a half of hockey !
Maybe a good idea to rest it today
I will think it over for a bit longer before I pull the plug on my day ! that will bring more crappy feelings if I miss a workout but could also hurt me further if I do it !
Another foot update I went to the Clarington Foot Clinic to see Carlos Desousa and he did an amazing job building and fitting my orthotics along with massage therapy threw my friend Peter (highly recommend) and a few classes of yoga to keep those muscles stretched out after Peters hard work and my foot pain is gone from 95% at 100% of the day to 5% at 10% of the day ! The only time it hurts is after extended periods of sitting after I get up and walk but then soon leaves after I'm mobile for a few minutes.
I have one hour before my day needs to start so I'm hoping this pain eases of so I can train !!!
Have a great day !

Blogging from email

So now I'm blogging threw email ,,,,,, these systems that love the pc's and won't give into the future !!! The sooner they realize that pc's and blackberry will soon be obsolete and make way for APPLE yes I'm pro apple lol !
I'm not to sure what happened ! Eblogger changed their format and now its like oil and water with my iPad ind eblogger so I will have to do it this way until I decide if I will continue using this site!
When I started using apple iPhones and iPads and found out I couldn't use some web sites that didn't have the flash media player so I made the decision that I wouldn't visit those sites ! I guess it's their loss !!! Now that eblogger has changed their format I must decide if I wish to continue blogging on this site! which is quite a shame because it was a good site!
I have lots of readers from all over the world and thank everyone who comes out and reads my daily blogs and if I do decide to change sites I will let you know the URL so you can continue to follow my daily ups and downs!
Speaking of ups and downs I'm on my one day of training and my legs are still killing me! I think it might even be from last nights swimming class !!! It was crazy !!!!! I checked my heart rate numerous times and it was at 155 bpm most of the night !! Wow it was hard
I went to the local bike shop today and picked up a new saddle ! I bought one I could return before 30 days and I took one test saddle with me so I will give them a try tomorrow my old seat was so brutal things were falling asleep on me after a long ride !! It was very uncomfortable
I spun for about 15 minutes today to test them out and of course the one that's 200 $ felt so nice!
So nice that I think I would keep riding that bike this year ! I'm still not sold on a lot of people's thoughts of getting huge time gains by getting a tri bike! ( oh yes they look nice ) but so does a Camero but if it only has a four cylinder in it how fast can it really be? And with me being this weight how much will the aerodynamic difference really be? I passed lots of expensive bikes in my first three races so i will have to see as the time goes on ! I was going to use my goal weight as the day to get my new bike!!
I have a cool story about my toronto island race! As I got on the bike I was in the first half of the pack and there was a lot of people behind me ! The first 1400 m was a no passing zone when I was in this no passing zone I could hear people talking behind me !! One guy said " hey big guy move over when you get outa this no passing zone your holding us up!" I just giggled inside and said ok lance!!! I knew I was fast and on a tri a tri I could go full out with only a 5 km bike and a 2.5 run so I politely let them pass and dropped back as per the rules and the guy said " thx big guy have a good race" which was nice but I said " ok Lance I'll see you in 5 minutes !! He giggled and said " ya ok" as he passed me on his 6000 dollar tri bike ! And what business did he have doing a tri a tri with such a fancy bike ? But anyway once I got warmed up I saw him just up ahead he made the turn around just as I was coming up to it and he said "holy crap how did you catch me !! " I just giggled and said " have a good race Lance I'll see you when you Finnish " I did see him at the finish !!! He finished about 5 minutes after me!!
So big day tomorrow my training week starts all over again hope it turns around for me!!

Good evening

Ups and downs

We all have them ! Ups and downs I just haven't had a down in a while (in my training) I've had a few comments today from some people that dont train for triathlon but know what im up too asking me what's wrong? I say oh nothing !!! Just a little tired .....then I get the famous words !!!"oh your doing to much your over training" I just politely smile and in my mind I know I'm fine then I say it's just life ! As you all know I have a coach that pays extra special care in making plans that fit into everyone's life and he watches with a close eye in every class we are in always checking up to make sure we are ok !! Even when you think he isn't watching ,,,,, he is ! I really had a tough time making it through my 1.5 hour bike last night and the swim today was a struggle but managed to make it threw !! It wasn't pretty but I did it! I changed my diet up a bit this week taking out some of the crappy things so I'm sure my body had to work a little harder to get energy ! (that's just what I think though I'm no expert) I just looked back on my training log and the only difference was that I had more complex carbs this week and less sugar and white breads.... I have an easy work day tommorow so I'm going to put a lot into planning ! And make next week a huge success. Threw the course of the week I hear all different kinds of weight loss techniques from all different kinds of people.. Some say "oh Jeff your doing it all wrong you need to be on a high protein diet" some say "oh Jeff you need to be on a low fat diet" and once again I just smile and nod my head because the real people that know about the diet of a triathlete is one who has been threw this sport before,,,,and I'm surrounded by some real experienced smart people that help me when I need it ! The nutrition part of this sport is just as important as the training for the sport ! And I learn new stuff every day !!! It's not only people like me that have a hard time with nutrition ...even the thin people have a hard time because you have to eat different almost every day ! Carbs on big work out days ( actually the day before for my big days I need to eat carbs like crazy,, and my smaller days a bit less carbs and my day off is usually my steak or roast beef day because it sticks around a little longer in me and keeps me full and out of the fridge . I have a funny feeling that 2 pounds a week is going to be a bit harder to achieve so I may scale it back to a pound a week and not get so stressed over it like my friend mark told me !!! He just said be patient and it will come off !!! Two weeks ago coach Paul said something about turning up the switch And I knew it was coming but I thought turning up the switch ment longer workouts but I was wrong,,,,,the workouts have been the same hours for me but wooooow he he the intensity turned up to about 9!!!! All my tri buddies are looking good out there I really think its going to be a big year for our team and the Durham region triathlon club ! You can check the club out on line at      thedrtc.ca
